LCM, or Least Common Multiple, is a mathematical function that helps find the smallest multiple that two or more numbers have in common. In simpler terms, it’s the smallest number that can be evenly divided by the given numbers.

Syntax

LCM(number1, [number2], …)

Arguments

number1
The first number for which you want to find the LCM.

[number2]
(Optional) Additional numbers for which you want to find the LCM. You can include multiple numbers separated by commas.

How to Use

To use the LCM function in Excel, follow these steps:

1. Start by typing an equal sign (=) in the cell where you want to display the result.

2. Then, type “LCM” and an opening parenthesis “(“.

3. Enter the first number for which you want to find the LCM, followed by a comma. If you have more numbers, continue to input them separated by commas.

4. Close the parenthesis “)” and press Enter.

Here’s an example of finding the LCM of two numbers:

=LCM(6, 8)

This will return the result: 24, which is the smallest multiple that 6 and 8 have in common.

If you have more than two numbers, you can still use the LCM function:

=LCM(4, 6, 8, 10)

Here, it will find the LCM of 4, 6, 8, and 10, which is 120.

LCM is particularly useful in various mathematical and real-life scenarios, such as scheduling tasks, working with fractions, and solving certain types of equations.
