I\u2019ve written an article about <a href=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/en\/examples\/group-dates-in-pivottable\">grouping dates in PivotTables<\/a>, so this one will be about grouping numbers and text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this lesson, we are going to use the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/spreadsheets\/d\/1ofEzOQ0nz0vgnOFSTEzoouA2s6EsXuPPeRRQK0feTVM\/edit?usp=sharing\">following data<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Group Numbers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol>\n<li>First, you need to insert a PivotTable. Click any cell inside the table.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Navigate to <strong>Insert &gt;&gt; Tables &gt;&gt; PivotTable<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inside <strong>PivotTable Fields<\/strong> select Date and Units. <strong>Price<\/strong> should be in ROWS and <strong>Units<\/strong> in VALUES.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"261\" height=\"273\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/01\/pivottable-fields.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3952\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Right-click any cell in <a href=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/examples\/pivot-table-row-labels-side-by-side\/\">Row Labels<\/a> and click <strong>Group<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Inside the <strong>Group<\/strong> window, uncheck <strong>Starting at<\/strong> and <strong>Ending at<\/strong>, and set <strong>By<\/strong> to 3. This will group values by 3, starting from 0.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"288\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/01\/group-by-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3953\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, we can see how many units we sold in these price ranges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Group Text<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to grouping numbers, we can also create custom groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Create a PivotTable and check <strong>Items<\/strong> and <strong>Price<\/strong>. Items should be in ROWS and Price in VALUES.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"245\" height=\"197\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/01\/items-and-price.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3954\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s going to create the following PivotTable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"286\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/01\/items-price-pivottable.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3955\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We are going to create a custom group for <strong>Pens<\/strong> and <strong>Pencils<\/strong>. Select these positions, right-click and choose <strong>Group<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"295\" height=\"260\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2019\/01\/custom-group.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3956\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, Pencils and Pens are inside one group called Group1, and Clipboards and Notebooks have their own individual groups that were created automatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Group1 is not the best name for the group.
