There are a few ways, you can do\nit, and I will show you the most popular ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Type the $ symbol<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The quickest and simplest way is to type the <a href=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/examples\/the-dollar-sign-in-excel\/\">dollar sign<\/a>\ndirectly into a cell, just before the number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"218\" height=\"80\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/03\/type-dollar-sign.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5068\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If a number is already inside a cell, without the sign, you\ncan add the symbol in two ways:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Double-click the cell with a number, so the\ncursor will be in front of the cell, and then place $.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the cell, press <strong>F2<\/strong>, and move the cursor in front of the number. Then place $.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you place the dollar sign and then remove value inside\nthis cell, the currency formatting will be present there. Now, you can place a\nnumber without the sign, and the currency formatting will be applied\nautomatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Format painter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The format painter will copy any formatting of a cell, and\npaste it into a different cell. If the only formatting you have inside the cell\nis the currency formatting, you can click it, and then click another cell or\ncells without this formatting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click a cell with currency formatting and navigate to <strong>Home &gt;&gt; Clipboard &gt;&gt; Format\npainter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"282\" height=\"273\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/03\/format-painter.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5069\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Apply the formatting to numbers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"282\" height=\"180\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/03\/apllied-formatting.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5073\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The standard formatting of cells B5 and B6 was changed to\nthe dollar formatting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ribbon<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The next place you can add the dollar sign to a number is\nthe <a href=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/en\/training\/ribbon\">Ribbon<\/a>. Just\nselect numbers and navigate to <strong>Home\n&gt;&gt; Number<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a small dollar button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"148\" height=\"93\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/03\/dollar-sign.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5071\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Click it and your number will change to dollar values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"218\" height=\"180\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/03\/dollar-button-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5072\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, <a href=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/examples\/decimal-places\/\">Excel added two decimal places<\/a>. If you want to\nchange them you can click <strong>Decrease\nDecimal<\/strong> in <strong>Home &gt;&gt; Number.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Format cells<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The next method for changing numbers to dollars is to use the\nFormat cell feature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To use it, select cells you want to convert to dollars and\nright-click these values. In the <strong>Sample<\/strong> are you have a live preview of how the first number is going\nto look like after you apply the changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Add sign automatically<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You don&#8217;t have to place numbers first and then apply the\nformatting. You can do the opposite. If you do so, you can check the formatting\nquickly.
