But how you can delete a cell that has no value, in other words, the blank cells?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this lesson, I&#8217;m going to show you how you can remove blank cells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take a look at the following example, where you have a list of values with some empty cells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"154\" height=\"180\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/04\/example-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5168\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Selecting blank cells<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First, you have to select a range of cells and then navigate to <strong>Home &gt;&gt; Editing &gt;&gt; Find &amp; Select &gt;&gt; <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/training\/selecting-with-go-to-special\/\">Go to Special<\/a>. From the <strong>Go To Special<\/strong> window choose <strong>Blanks<\/strong> and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"314\" height=\"330\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/04\/go-to-special.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/04\/go-to-special.png 314w, https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/04\/go-to-special-285x300.png 285w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 314px) 100vw, 314px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>All the blank cells are now selected (<strong>A1<\/strong>, <strong>A4<\/strong>, <strong>A6<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"154\" height=\"180\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/04\/blank-cells-selected.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5170\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, navigate to <strong>Home &gt;&gt; Cells &gt;&gt; Delete &gt;&gt; Delete Cells<\/strong>. Alternatively, you can use a keyboard shortcut: <strong>Ctrl + &#8211;<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new window has 4 radio buttons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"173\" height=\"178\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/04\/delete-window.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5171\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In our example, we can use both <strong>Shift cells up<\/strong> and <strong>Entire row<\/strong>. After you click <strong>OK<\/strong>, the empty cells will disappear, leaving only cells with values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"154\" height=\"120\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/04\/removed-blank-cells.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5172\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shift cells up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In this example, you have three people with the number of hours they worked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"282\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/04\/wokring-hours.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5173\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use <strong>Shift cells up<\/strong> to move all cells that have values into places of empty cells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Select all the cells, then choose blanks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"282\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/04\/selected-blank-cells.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5174\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Use <strong>Ctrl + &#8211;<\/strong> to open the <strong>Delete<\/strong> window. Choose <strong>Shift cells up<\/strong> and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"282\" height=\"180\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/04\/shifted-up-example.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5175\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Entire row<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also delete the entire row of cells. You have to be careful here because any blank cell inside a row will <a href=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/training\/deleting-rows-and-columns\/\">delete the entire row<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take a look at the previous example. What happens if you choose <strong>Entire row<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"282\" height=\"100\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/04\/two-rows.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5176\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Only two rows left. Because in rows 4 and 6 there were no blank cells at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s take a look at another example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"362\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/04\/workdays.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5177\" srcset=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/04\/workdays.png 362w, https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2020\/04\/workdays-300x166.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 362px) 100vw, 362px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There are three people again, but this time we have a table with the number of hours worked on workdays. On holidays nobody worked, so let&#8217;s get rid of these rows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Select cells from <strong>A2<\/strong> to <strong>D8<\/strong>, choose blanks, and then delete <strong>Entire row<\/strong>.
