{"id":959,"date":"2018-07-01T09:28:54","date_gmt":"2018-07-01T09:28:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/?p=959"},"modified":"2024-02-19T14:52:52","modified_gmt":"2024-02-19T14:52:52","slug":"remove-blank-rows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/formulas\/remove-blank-rows\/","title":{"rendered":"Remove Blank Rows in Excel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If you have a large list containing empty rows, dealing with each row manually may not be the best idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For that reason, I will show you how you can delete multiple rows at once with a few easy steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Deleting Blank Rows<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If we have a situation where there is only one column, or many columns with blank cells in the same row, removing them is very simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"218\" height=\"202\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/07\/remove-blank-rows-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-960\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Select cells from&nbsp;<strong>A1<\/strong>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<strong>B8<\/strong>&nbsp;and <a href=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/training\/selecting-with-go-to-special\/\">go to&nbsp;<strong>HOME &gt;&gt; Find &amp; Select &gt;&gt; Go To Special\u2026<\/strong><\/a>. Now, we will be able to remove rows 4 and 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We use one of the two methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First method:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to&nbsp;<strong>HOME &gt;&gt; Delete &gt;&gt; Delete Sheet Rows<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"174\" height=\"104\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/07\/delete-sheet-rows.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-962\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Second method:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Use&nbsp;<strong><span class=\"shortcut\">Ctrl + &#8211;<\/span><\/strong>&nbsp;to open the&nbsp;<strong>Delete<\/strong>&nbsp;window and then choose&nbsp;<strong>Entire Row<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"187\" height=\"184\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/07\/delete-entire-row.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-963\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After deleting these rows, our example will look like this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"218\" height=\"160\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/07\/example-result.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-964\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Deleting Blank Rows with the COUNTA function<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Take a look at a slightly more complicated example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"412\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/07\/advanced-example.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-965\" srcset=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/07\/advanced-example.png 412w, https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/07\/advanced-example-300x146.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 412px) 100vw, 412px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In this example, we need to delete only the&nbsp;<strong>fifth<\/strong>&nbsp;row because only in this one all cells are blank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We can\u2019t use the same method we used earlier because only the&nbsp;<strong>sixth<\/strong>&nbsp;row will stay- no cell is empty (<strong>B6:D6<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, we use the&nbsp;<strong>COUNTA<\/strong>&nbsp;function, which <a href=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/formulas\/count-cells-that-are-not-blank\/\">counts only cells that are not empty<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Example:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In this example add another column at the end of our table and then insert the following formula into cell&nbsp;<strong>E3.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">=COUNTA(B3:D3)<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p>Use&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/en\/training\/autofill\">Autofill<\/a>&nbsp;to fill the rest of the cells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"489\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/07\/counta-column.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-966\" srcset=\"https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/07\/counta-column.png 489w, https:\/\/officetuts.net\/excel\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/07\/counta-column-300x123.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 489px) 100vw, 489px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Select cells from&nbsp;<strong>E3<\/strong>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<strong>E8<\/strong>&nbsp;and go to&nbsp;<strong>HOME &gt;&gt; Find &amp; Select &gt;&gt; Find<\/strong>&nbsp;(<strong><span class=\"shortcut\">Ctrl + F<\/span><\/strong>). In Find what enter&nbsp;<strong>0<\/strong>&nbsp;and click&nbsp;<strong>Find All<\/strong>.
